Local Leaders of Education (LLEs)

LLEs are successful headteachers who are able to support other headteachers or senior leaders to achieve sustainable school improvement through one-to-one coaching and mentoring.

Benefits of using an LLE

The precise role of the LLE is flexible and varies depending on the context but the schools most likely to benefit from LLE support are where the Headteacher or senior leader:

• Would benefit from peer challenge and support to ensure impact in key improvement priorities

• Is looking to develop fresh perspectives on issues presenting considerable challenge

• Is new to leadership and would benefit from assistance in the transition period to maintain momentum in their school’s improvement

Become an LLE

LLEs can provide coaching support, in confidence, to help negotiate objectives for improvement and to develop skills, judgement and professional effectiveness. Each engagement is different, and the activities could cover:

Personnel

• Finance

• Curriculum

• Leadership

• Ofsted

• Premises

• Governance

• Parental engagement

• Working with the community

The brokering process

Each placement is negotiated via the ESLCN with the relevant school, other organisation, or the Local Authority.   The nationally agreed rate for LLE support is £450 a day.

Get support for your school

Our LLEs are listed in the ESLCN System Leader Directory. If you are a Headteacher and you think you would benefit from the support of an LLE, please contact us. We will then work with you to identify your needs and match you with the most appropriate System Leader for your setting.

If you’re new to using school to school support, you may find it useful to read our ‘What is school to school support’ section.

Get in touch with a leader

If you would like a more informal chat with an LLE or NLE, please get in touch and we would be happy to put you in touch with someone who can offer support.

I am very thankful to have met Louisa and have the experience I did from her as it really helped me see that experience in teaching is key and that comes with practice and CPD
